CLHELP QUESTIONS Composed by: Tow on or about the 6th of Aeguary, 403 AF. Learning how to become a cub helper can bring up a lot of questions in one's mind. Don't be scared to ask help from more experienced aides. Here is a list with some questions we hear frequently. Thanks to Tundrawolf and Canina for the parts where they helped. Where to find out about some cubs? http://www.geocities.com/tow_w/cubs.xls Questions about the foxeslog and enemying yourself? please readnews foxes 1449, 1455 and 1454 What if a cub imprinted a grove before joining the House? If a cub imprinted a grove before joining and wishes to keep it as a cub, then he or she can appeal to the House Leader with the mitigating circumstances. That way we'll be able to tell a little better exactly how connected this cub is to the grove. What if a cub already has concoction skills upon joining? We'll allow those who already have concoctions and get inducted as cubs to use them and learn them, but they still ought to have perceive in survival and know all the harvesting laws. What can a cub intern do on its own? Intros if no full Cub Aide or EIA is available or will be available soon to do it All other things need to be done supervised by a Cub Aide What can an EIA-trainee do on it's own? When you feel ready to intro you can do them, but be sure to watch 2 before doing supervised intros or the EIA manager should have decided differently in your case. What can a Cub Aide-trainee do on it's own? When you have done the internship recently: - intros in case of an emergency and no other aides around or available - SCT the same as for intros - interviews always with a full aide present Without the internship: - An intro when no full EIA or Cub Aide is availible - A Sentinel cub test when they have at least done their required supervised SCT - Interviews always with a cub aide present Who can observe me doing stuff? Cub Interns need to be observed by full Cub aides. Intros can be supervised by both full EIA's or Cub aides. Everything else needs to be supervised by a full cub aide to be counted for completing your training. Where can I find how to do an intro, interview or sentinelcubtest? In the foxes clan the clhelps files for CI (Cub Interns) are a good start. But the most you will learn from observing the aides. I would suggest you write down your own guide also where you make a list of all files you will have the cub read, things you need to check, questions you need to ask. Having your own checklist might prevent you from forgetting things. Ideally, I try to all do it from my head, but there are days when I forget certain little details I usually include in intros. You could write down the things if you want, but it's like aliases, you shouldn't rely on them too much. There's always going to be a cubby who will force you to stray from your usual procedure. In fact, they all do, at one time or another. How long can it take? An intro can take as long as 45 minutes to 2 hours. You should however try to make it as quick and painless as possible. Cubs do get impatient after a while and this forces you to either stress yourself to complete the intro quickly(and losing teaching material in the process) or you get mad at the cub and tell him to be patient. I don't like being stuck in either of those situations and neither should you. You can practice by running mock intros to yourself timing how long it takes to input the information and how long it takes to read. There are some days where you will have no choice but to do a long intro, but don't make yourself feel bad about it and that way you won't make the cub feel bad about it. SCTs can be done on 45 minutes, depends much on how well the cub knows its way around Interviews will easily take longer then one hour and some might take a very long time as I experienced myself. Should I eat or sleep before I work with a cub? It's always good to have slept and eaten first, yes. During the intro having to wait while you sleep can make some cubs restless. Here's a tip though. Eat before the intro and sleep while the cubby reads and ask him or her to poke you or emote you in any way when they are done. That way you can get rest while the cubs busy themselves and unless they leave without telling you, you will still have control over their present activities. If you feel you can trust the cub, tell him or her that you are going to be sleeping for a bit, otherwise don't. And make sure not to fall asleep while teaching the cub its lessons. For interviews or tests get yourself rested and fed before. If you still would need sleep or food during the process go get some, it's just something that happens. What if I have to leave during an intro? If you have to leave, try to find another aide as soon as possible. If that's not possible, instruct the cub to finish reading and tell him or her to bash in Minia for a bit. Then post that you had to leave in the middle of the intro and mention that there were no aides available and that you told the cub they could bash for a little while. If there are no aides around, it's okay to forward the intro to a Cub Aide or EIA trainee, but don't forward it to a cub intern. They won't be experienced enough to handle troubles on their own, especially when no such experienced person is there for them to fall back on. What if a cub disappears before the end of an intro? Ideally, you should only wait 5 minutes and then run to the news to post about it on the foxes clan news. If you have any reason to wait longer, like the cubby told you he'd be back by then, then do so. Just keep in mind that just in case the cubby doesn't show up as planned, you should make yourself available to other intros should you be needed. If you do that, bring the new cub where you left the first one. That way if he pops back, you can finish both of them simultaneously. If they are at different points in the intro, you might want to talk to the returning cub in tells while you instruct the other one and make sure that at least the returning cub is aware of this. Again, if this is going to bog down on your intro time, focus on finishing the new cub first then get someone else to finish the returning one if possible or simply ask him to wait until both cubs are at the same spot in the intro procedure. What if a cub disappears before the end of an interview or SCT? You will have to post on foxes. And much will depend on how far you got. An interview has two parts, the requirements and the actual interview. If you already checked all requirements put it in your post so that can be skipped the next time. If you already asked some questions put in your post if you would have noticed some things that need some attention. You can tell the cub to wait for you if you both would be around the next month at the same time. If someone else continues it all questioning has to be re done. Same for Sentinelcubtest just the second part is the walk here. What when there is no secretary around to retitle, sponsor or whatever? Make a post on foxes, all secretaries can read the foxes news and all foxes will know to look out for the cub in question and to help it. Also tell the cub to ask for a secretary to retitle him if he sees one on help sentinels. What if a fire occurs when I'm working with a cub? Go to the fire and tell the cub what is happening and leave the cub in the House Estate. If you see the fire gets under control go back to your cub. A cub witnessing this can only learn from such experience.
